About the Artist
Khae Su is a Burmese freelance illustrator and plein air artist currently based in Paris, France.
Her vibrant and colorful whimsical work draws inspiration from nature, capturing peaceful moments filled with greenery, flowers, and the quiet beauty of everyday life. She specializes in gouache and watercolor, creating delicate and atmospheric illustrations.
Originally from Yangon, Myanmar, Khae studied at École Émile Cohl in Lyon, France, where she developed her skills in traditional art and visual storytelling. Her art is deeply personal, shaped by her surroundings, daily observations, and the simple, meaningful moments she encounters.
A Little More About Khae
The name Khae comes from the Burmese word Yay Khae (ရေခဲ), meaning ice. It was a nickname given to her by friends in high school for her calm and introverted nature. Over time, she embraced Khae-ခဲ as her artist identity - a quiet, steady name that reflects both her personality and her artistic sensibility.
When she's not painting or drawing, Khae enjoys biking around Paris on her bike "Noe", collecting notebooks, journaling to capture her thoughts, and thrifting for secondhand clothes. She loves flowers, solo trips to the tiny old cinemas in paris , music that stirs deep emotions, and Studio Ghibli films. The beauty of nature and simple moments bring her comfort and inspiration.

Mini-Documentary of Khae
This mini-documentary features an intimate interview with
me, Khae, sharing my artistic journey as a watercolor artist from Myanmar. I talk about how I discovered
my love for painting storefronts and everyday scenes, my transition from traditional art to freelance
digital illustration, and the inspirations behind my style, often compared to the peaceful worlds of
Studio Ghibli. I also share personal stories, from how I got my nickname "Khae," to my fav artist, my love
for vintage fashion, thrifting, and my journey learning French.
Although the interview is in
Burmese, I hope the visuals and atmosphere still speak to you.
